Full-time opportunity of 40 hours weekly in our Shelter Clinic. Availability for days, night, and/or weekends.   

Northeast Animal Shelter is looking for a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or an experienced vet assistant who will thrive in and enjoy our fun, fast paced team. Within the department, out technicians and assistants are vital to the effective and efficient care of all patients at NEAS. 

THE POSITION:

In this role, our Clinic Veterinary Technicians/Assistants are primary responsible for assisting the shelter veterinarians and technicians with procedures and treatments required to assure and maintain the health of the animals in the shelter as well as those treated through low cost public programs.

Our clinic team also works on the clinic floor performing safe patient restraint, admissions and discharges from the hospital, and client education. The vet technician/assistant needs to be able to explain processes in an effective and efficient manner, answering questions knowledgably and improving an owner’s understanding of the care his or her pet is being given during their visit to the clinic. This often is required both orally and in writing.

The vet technician/assistant is expected to demonstrate technical skills required of a veterinary professional including phlebotomy, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, nail clipping, microchipping, obtaining a urine sample via free catch, animal restraint and performing basic laboratory tests. This position requires a knowledge of procedures, protocols, medical terminology, animal handing, and basic medical math calculation.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for either a certified /registered veterinary technician or an assistant with at least 2 years of veterinary care experience. New graduates of veterinary technology programs are encouraged to apply. 

Clear communication is essential to relaying veterinary clinical information to our clients and other hospital staff in a confident, clear manner.  Therefore we are looking for applicants who  have excellent communication skills.
