Just weeks ago, the Northeast Animal Shelter was alerted to a particularly heartbreaking situation by the Berkeley Animal Center – a shelter that our organization had been mentoring since last year.
A “cat sanctuary” for cats with special needs in South Carolina was taking in cats to receive donations and then severely neglecting them. The cats, who were adult to senior in age, were in dire shape, and time was of the essence.
Not only did we send shelter staff, but also members of our Law Enforcement Team to help assess the situation on the ground. Because there were 100 cats on the property, we needed their varied expertise to safely remove and begin rehabilitating the cats who survived.
The cats needed time to heal from the issues related to long-term neglect, including malnourishment. But we’re happy to report that they have all been adopted into loving homes. Your gifts helped make that possible.
