This is a full time 40 hour/week position. Day shift Tuesday –Saturday but some flexibility in scheduling will be needed.

Northeast Animal Shelter is currently seeking an experienced animal behavior and training professional with excellent teamwork skills to join our shelter behavior team. THE POSITION:

The Behavior Associate works within a close team of behavior professionals, led by the Director of Behavior. Our team works to help shelter dogs and cats experiencing challenges and advises the shelter staff and volunteers on handling, training and matching animals to adopters. We also work closely with families that have adopted pets from our shelter. The behavior associate will also be a critical part of our future public training classes.

The Behavior Associate will be responsible for creating and implementing behavior modification plans for dogs and cats in the adoption center, and instructing adoption center staff on the creation of appropriate adoption recommendations. This position will help lead training for our shelter staff and volunteers in animal behavior.

The Behavior Associate will provide pre-adoption counseling and hands-on training for prospective adopters, alongside post-adoption support to families who are struggling at home. The Coordinator will also provide surrender-prevention support to members of the community to help keep pets with their loving families. This position will help to grow the behavior program to its full potential and will be a critical part of the program’s future.

QUALIFIED APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

·        2 years of experience in animal welfare or related fields

·        2 years working or volunteering directly with animals, ideally of different species, sizes and temperaments.

·        2 years of training/behavior modification experience in accordance with NEAS’ philosophies in a shelter setting.

·        Must be an organized, creative problem solver who has fantastic people skills

·        Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects and/or animals weighing up to 50 lbs.
