Imagine the surprise of former foster mom Marisa when she opened her car hood to check out a noise, only to find a tiny kitten tucked in near the engine.
It was a miracle the kitten had survived the perilous journey from New Jersey to Salem, Massachusetts. Marisa’s foster experience told her the young kitten needed help right away, so she brought her to us.
Our veterinary team examined the kitten (named Spring in honor of Bruce Springsteen) and determined she had conjunctivitis (inflammation/infection around the eyes) and was slightly underweight. Otherwise, she appeared in good health. Too young for adoption, Spring was placed in a foster home, where she’ll stay until she gets older and stronger.
Foster homes are a lifesaving extension of our adoption center. Foster parents provide temporary homes for animals who aren’t quite ready for adoption or who need some extra help. Learn more at www.neas.org/foster.
